Multi-Touch and Some Other Cool Things

Ok. This guy is into some cool, cool stuff. Jeff Han has a number of very impressive short movies of some of the fascinating prototypes. Not only Multi-Touch (which the iPhone has suddenly become most publicly associated with), but some very interesting work using LEDS as photodiodes, and his media mirror which pitched as artwork, but is a very interesting extension of the multi-touch reflective feedback.
So what’s the deal with multi-touch? Having not touched it yet, it looks rather slick. I have an even better sense of how the magic is actually happening when you take a look at the embedded schematic here from Han’s site (click for a larger image). It also gives you an idea of how Apple can consider keeping the screen of the iPhone as a solid surface, not spongy like many touchscreens. If you can just rub the surface of the iPhone every slightly and in return interact with graceful and momentum enhanced ‘gestures’ this interface can really fly. Will be quite exciting to see it soon.

Check out Jeff Han’s site. Very cool blend of technology and interactive creativity.
