Motel of the Mysteries by David Macaulay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was a short treat. I am not sure whether I may have read before, but it took me right back to all that Macaulay did so well and why I made sure I always added a physical copy of his books to my collection in the days. His perspective is clever – whether in his prose in this case or in how he shares his visual perspective in all his lovely ‘built’ series of crafted works. This brought me back to Unbuilt – another absolute treasure.
This one is as mentioned a short treat. Set in a distant future whether archaeologists of the time radically misinterpret the use of the artefacts that they find from our current times and raise the much-revered motel and its associated paraphernalia to shrine and temple proportions. Fun and all the more so for the unique skill of the artist/writer.
