Explore Irish Craft Brewing

Craft brewing in Ireland is experiencing a renaissance. Combining aspects of a tradition of small-batch artisinal beer output stretching back hundreds of years, from 1981, there has been an accelerating growth of brewers practising these traditions and combining them with innovative and experimental approaches to modern beer production.

The Irish Craft Brewing Explorer offers a variety of perspectives on this phenomenon and invites you to ask your own questions and draw conclusions from data conveyed visually and based on collections of all the beers brewed in Ireland since 2010 and on the brewers that crafted them.

You are invited to hear them express their own perspectives on their trade and on the rich and vibrant community that has evolved around it.

In an academic exercise, the way in which this community and its members have found meaning and identity in what they do, embedded in a unique physical and cultural environment, is conceptualised as a socio-cultural terroir.

This site explores the uniqueness of this socio-cultural terroir of Irish craft brewing today. You are welcome to explore, share, interact and join in the discussion.
